Brother, Can You Spare a Dime? Extra Life Campaign

Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?
Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?

Generally speaking, I’m not one to ask for things. I am reluctant to ask for favors and I am especially disinclined to ever ask for money. However, I am doing both of these today. The great people at Extra Life reached out to me on Instagram to ask if I would be a participant in this year’s EXTRALIFETabletop fundraiser and I eagerly accepted. Tabletop Appreciation Weekend is August 25-26. I have assembled a team of board gamers to join me in this cause and we currently have a collective goal of $1,150. My personal goal is $100. Any donations made to a person on the team also goes towards the team goal.

More about Extra Life

To date, Extra Life has donated over $43 million to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Gamers come together to play games for a marathon 24-hour session and ask for donations from friends, family, and other gamers. It is really that simple. 100% of the proceeds go to the CMN Hospitals. The Network claims to have raised over $4.7 billion for 170 hospitals. Odds are good that there is a hospital near you and that you know someone with a child who has needed their services. So, in the words of Yip Harburg, “Brother, can you spare a dime?”

How Can You Help?

Helping is simple. The best way is to follow this link to my Extra Life page at http://www.extra-life.org/participant/nzsgames and pledge a donation amount. I know donating isn’t for everyone but I have roughly 6,300 followers across social media at the time of this writing so if less than 2% of those followers were to donate a dollar each I’d hit my goal of $100.

But if you guys really wanted to help show the world how great the tabletop gaming community is we could blow my personal goal and my team’s goal out of the water! Currently, $1,700 in donations would rank the team in the top 100. Let’s do this! I’ll list the team members down below and their geographic locations. You may prefer to donate to someone who is closer to you since they might’ve chosen a local hospital within the Children’s Miracle Network and I encourage you to do so!

Let’s preserve our hobby and, more importantly, save the future generation of gamers!
